GD Goenka Model United Nations 2025 – Day 1 Report (24 October 2025)
GD Goenka Public School, Srinagar commenced Day One of the prestigious GD Goenka Model United Nations 2025 with great enthusiasm and academic vigour. The day opened with gracious and confident hosting by Fahad Junaid and Afreen binti Ashiq , who welcomed all dignitaries and delegates to this significant international forum of dialogue and diplomacy. The session commenced with the recitation of the Holy Qur’an followed by the National Anthem, evoking a spirit of unity and solemnity among all present.
The event witnessed the esteemed presence of distinguished guests, including Mr. Riyaz Kathjoo, Principal, Green Valley Educational Institute and Dr. Gulzar Ahmad, Principal, Shemford Futuristic School, Anantnag, along with delegates and escort teachers from various reputed institutions across the Valley. Their participation reinforced the collaborative objective of the conference, strengthening academic exchange and inter-school cooperation.
A formal welcome was presented by the Lead Coordinator, Ms. Asia Mushtaq, who highlighted the school’s belief in providing platforms that encourage students to voice their perspectives and prepare for global citizenship. Reflecting the spirit of inclusivity embedded in GDGMUN, she emphasized that the conference stands as “an accessible and empowering academic experience where every learner is encouraged to explore, express, and lead with confidence.”
This was followed by an insightful address from the Principal, Mr. Johnson P. J., who highlighted the profound importance of the Modal United Nations as a platform enabling youth to become proactive contributors to world peace. He further emphasized the invaluable efforts of UN Volunteers of India and encouraged students to adopt a spirit of cooperation and collaboration, both within schools and beyond. Stressing the objective of meaningful learning, he stated that opportunities like MUNs should never be overshadowed by concerns of competition, winning, or losing. “Titles are momentary; growth is permanent,” he remarked, inspiring students to seek knowledge that nurtures inner peace and ultimately contributes to peace around them and across the nation.
Following his address, the Principal presented mementos to the distinguished guests as a token of appreciation and goodwill.
The conference was then formally declared open by Director General, Qabaisa Kozgar a student of grade IX , GD Goenka, Srinagar ,who invited the ROPs to commence the debates across the six committees being hosted this year:
1.General Assembly (UNGA):Agenda: Recessing the UN Veto Power: Should permanent members be held accountable for humanitarian crisis?
2.United Nations Security Council (UNSC):Agenda: Reforming UNSC membership-should new permanent members be added?
3.Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC):Agenda: Digital economy and job automation-balancing innovation and employment .
4.World Health Organization (WHO):Agenda: Combating the spread of antibiotic resistance
5.United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC):Agenda: Freedom of expression V/s Misinformation in the digital surveillance
6.Joint Crisis Committee (JCC):Agenda: Cyber warfare and Global Power Disruptions -A large scale cyber attacks cripples international communication networks-nations.
Delegates were briefed on the formal structure and code of conduct expected throughout the sessions, ensuring that all proceedings adhere to the discipline and decorum of diplomatic protocol.
Committee work began with Roll Call, Setting the Agenda, and Opening Speeches, during which delegates presented strong, well-researched positions representing their respective nations. The auditorium resonated with persuasive arguments, reflective analysis, and articulate rebuttals as the moderated and unmoderated caucuses progressed. Delegates showcased remarkable preparation, confidence, and respect for global perspectives, demonstrating the true spirit of youth diplomacy.
A brief tea break facilitated interaction among delegates and dignitaries, followed by the continuation of sessions in the UNHRC. After a formal lunch hosted for guests and participants, the delegates proceeded to their respective committee rooms to collaborate on drafting resolutions, guided by the Organising Committee members.
Post lunch, the Joint Crisis Committee resumed in the auditorium, where delegates engaged in fast-paced negotiation and crisis response, presenting quick-thinking solutions under pressure — a highlight of Day One.
The day concluded successfully with productive outcomes, enriching discussions, and significant progress toward the resolutions to be voted upon on Day Two. Day One of GDGMUN 2025 truly stood as a testament to youthful intellect, diplomatic reasoning, and the power of dialogue in shaping a better and more peaceful world.
